YALE HOSTS SHU IN CT HOCKEY FOUNDATION BENEFIT

The No. 19 Bulldogs play their final non-league game of 2018-19 when the Sacred Heart Pioneers come to the Whale on Saturday. The 7 p.m. game benefitting the Connecticut Hockey Foundation airs live on ESPN+.

SERIES
Yale has taken 5 of the 6 meetings with the Pioneers while outscoring SHU 26-12 overall.

LAST MEETING
Joe Snively had both goals and Sam Tucker made 18 saves in Yale's 2-1 win over Sacred Heart last December at Webster Bank Arena.

YALE
Three different Bulldogs scored goals as the Bulldogs overcame a 3-1 deficit on Monday against Maine to send the game to overtime before falling 4-3 at Cross Insurance Arena. Andrew Gaus, Evan Smith and Mitchell Smith found the net and Sam Tucker made 36 saves against the Black Bears. Joe Snively leads Yale in scoring with 9 goals and 20 points, while Tucker (2.26, .923) and Corbin Kaczperski (2.64, .888) have shared the net duties.

SHU
The Pioneers brought a 5-9-2 overall record (5-6-1 Atlantic) into Tuesday's game with AIC. Sacred Heart had won 3 of 5 heading into that game with help from Marc Johnstone (2-8-10), Jason Cotton (5-4-9) and Matt Tugnutt (5-4-9). The goaltending has been handled by Brett Magnus (3.17, .896) and Josh Benson (2.37, .911).

TEAM USA
Two Yale defensemen, sophomore Phil Kemp and first-year Jack St. Ivany, helped Team USA take a silver medal at the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship in British Columbia over the holiday break. Kemp, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound former U.S. National Team Development Program player who is an Edmonton Oiler draft pick, was on last year's preliminary Team USA roster but did not make the final cut. This year he not only made the squad, he was a key contributor. St. Ivany, drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers last summer, is a 6-foot-2, 195-pound Manhattan Beach, Calif., native who played for Sioux Falls (USHL) last year. This was the first Yale combo on a Team USA WJC roster since 1993.
