3 Bulldogs Named to Pre-Season Team

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Inside Lacrosse's Face-Off Yearbook released its 2011 Ivy League pre-season poll and all-star team, and the Ivy coaches picked Yale third and put three Bulldog juniors on the all-league squad.

The Elis, predicted to finish in a third-place tie with Brown, are coming off a three-way share of the 2010 Ivy League title. Head coach Andy Shay enjoyed his best season in New Haven with a 10-4 mark and a spot in the league's first post-season tournament.

Attackman Matt Gibson (Point Lookout, NY) and midfielders Gregory Mahony (Mercer Island, Wash.) and Michael Pratt (Garden City, NY) were picked on the 13-member pre-season All-Ivy squad.

Gibson was second-team All-Ivy in 2010 while taking New England Player of the Year and team offensive MVP honors. He was named to the Inside Lacrosse 2011 Pre-Season All-America team after earning honorable mention status during a 26-goal campaign last spring.

Last spring, Mahony earned a spot on the All-Ivy second team and was a first-team All-New England selection after notching 21 goals. Pratt, one of Yale's top short-stick defensive middies, is looking for his first post-season awards.
