Bulldogs Preparing For 2012 Campaign
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale men's lacrosse team hosts its annual alumni game at Reese Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 8, prior to the playing of the Yale-Dartmouth football game. The 2011-12 Bulldogs will face off against former players at 9:30 a.m.
The Elis, led by senior captain Michael Pratt (Garden City, NY), are in the middle of fall workouts and preparation for a 2012 season that opens in February.
Yale, ranked as high as No. 14 during 2011, finished 10-4 overall and led Division I in faceoff percentage.
The returnees are headed by senior attackman and USILA All-American Matt Gibson (Point Lookout, NY), who helped his squad rank 11th in the country with over 10 goals a game in 2011. Including Yale's veteran offensive standout, the Blue has three 2011 All-Ivy and three All-New England picks coming back to head coach Andy Shay's lineup.
Midfielder Gregory Mahony (Mercer Island, Wash.) earned second-team All-Ivy honors at midfield and was a first-team All-New England pick.
One of the team's defensive leaders is Michael McCormack (West Islip, NY), who was an honorable mention all-league pick while helping the Bulldogs rank third in caused turnovers and seventh nationally in scoring defense.
Cole Yeager (Wayne, Pa.), a junior faceoff man, earned All-New England honors after finishing fourth in Division I with a .648 percentage. He was 16th in ground balls with 5.36 per game.
