McCormack, Johnson, Zdrill Selected
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Bulldogs came within a game of playing this weekend in the national semifinals, but three Yale players have been invited to showcase their skills close to Lincoln Financial Center in all-star competition. Defensemen Michael McCormack and Peter Johnson and attackman Kirby Zdrill have been selected to play in the 2013 USILA/Lax World Division I-II North-South Senior All-Star Game at Edith Robb Dixon Field on the campus of Cabrini College in Radnor, Pa., on Friday, May 24, at 5:30 PM.
The Eli trio, possibly the most players Yale has ever had in this event, is part of a 27-player North team coached by Eric Seremet (Air Force) and Andy Copeland (Fairfield). They are also three of five players from the Ivy League on the North squad; Princeton has the other two.
McCormack, recently named team MVP, is a likely All-America pick who may end up playing in an MLL regular-season game for Charlotte instead of heading to Pennsylvania for the all-star game. Johnson, who could be named the winner of the Senior CLASS Award in Philadelphia on Saturday, led the team in caused turnovers and was the team's defensive MVP, while Zdrill has a career-best 30 goals for a Bulldog team that trailed in every game but still had all that success.
Yale finished the 2013 season with a 12-5 mark, a second straight Ivy League Tournament Championship and its first NCAA Quarterfinal appearance since 1992.
