The Bulldogs must have felt like they ran into a nest of angry bees this afternoon when they ventured North to Amherst. Jim Connolly had seven goals and Tim Balise had four goals and one assist as the No. 20 ranked Massachusetts men's lacrosse team defeated Yale 18-6 at Garber Field.
The Minutemen, coming off a loss to Hofstra, scored the first four goals and seven of the game's first eight tallies on the way to a 12-2 halftime lead.
Michael Karwoski, Colin Still, Brian Douglass, Mark Dobrosky and Brendan and Matt Gibson each hit the net once for the Elis, who fall to 1-1 on the season after opening with a win at Holy Cross. Freshman goalie Andrew Brown made his debut for the Blue and made 11 saves.
The Minutemen (2-1) won easily despite Yale's edge in ground balls (40-29) and faceoffs (15 of 25). However, the Bulldogs failed on eight clear attempts and went scoreless with three man-advantages. Meanwhile, UMass cashed in on four of its seven advantages.
Doc Schneider played all but five minutes in the UMass net and stopped 14 shots.
