Munns has established himself as one of the top offensive players in the Ivy League. His 18 career goals are the most of any returning player. As a junior, he earned first team All-Ivy and second team All-New England honors after leading the Bulldogs in scoring. His seven goals and 17 points were both second in the Ivy League. Two of his goals were game-winners, including the only goal in a key league win at Columbia. He also scored both goals in a 2-0 victory over Cornell, which helped him earn Ivy League and ECAC Player of the Week honors. In addition, he was named to Soccer America's Team of the Week. He was selected as the Offensive MVP of the Dartmouth Classic after scoring twice in Yale's win over Rhode Island. Against Princeton, he assisted on the game-winning goal that helped the Bulldogs earn a share of the Ivy League title. As a sophomore Munns earned honorable mention All-Ivy recognition after leading the Bulldogs in goals and points. His 17 points were second in the Ivy League and his seven goals tied for second. Two of his goals were game-winners, and he had a hat trick against Sacred Heart. As a rookie, he started 14 games, the most of any freshman, and was third on team in goals (4) and points (9). Two of his goals were game-winners, including the only goal in a victory over UConn. At Theodore Roosevelt High School Munns was a two-year captain of the soccer team He was a second team all-state selection as both a sophomore and a junior, and was named to the adidas/National Coaches' Association of America All-Midwest team in 2001. In addition, he was a member of the West Des Moines Attack state cup-winning team in Iowa. Munns competed on the Iowa Olympic Development team throughout high school and was named to the Region II Pool team in 2000. In the summer of 2005, Munns played for the Premier Developmental League Des Moines Menace, which won the 2005 PDL championship.
