Construction on Reese Stadium to Begin Nov. 9

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Yale University has announced that construction of Phase II of the Reese Stadium Project will commence on Nov. 9. Phase II, which is projected to be completed in 10 months, will consist of a new stadium structure which will include four team rooms, expanded bleachers, a press box, VIP seating areas and an entryway plaza. It will also feature the names of all former soccer and lacrosse players on the archways leading into the stadium.

This news is the culmination of the extraordinary recent efforts of the Yale Soccer and Lacrosse Associations' "Winning Goal Campaign," and their work in conjunction with the staff of both the Athletic and Development offices.  In addition, leadership donors Jon Reese ‘90 and Jason Reese ‘87, the Kempner family, and an anonymous soccer match gift were an integral part of this project's success.

"This new facility is a reflection of what can be accomplished with amazing team work.  The partnership between our Associations and the leadership of the University to make this vision a reality is incredible.  I believe Reese Stadium is a tremendous indicator of the great future in store for Yale Athletics and the commitment we make to providing a world-class experience for our student-athletes," Director of Athletics Tom Beckett said.

In addition, all of the head coaches associated with the facility agreed that the upgrade would be a boon for recruiting the next generation of Ivy Champions to New Haven and a venue that all former players would take great pride in visiting.

Head Men's Soccer Coach Brian Tompkins commented, "The newly renovated Reese Stadium will bring our recruiting to the next level.  I am so grateful to the Soccer and Lacrosse Associations, and the University, for their tremendous support of this project and help in making our new home a reality."

Further, Anne Phillips, the Joel E. Smilow, Class of 1954 Head Coach of Women's Lacrosse, said, "I am thrilled that Reese Stadium is the new home of Yale Women's Lacrosse.  The support of the Lacrosse and Soccer Associations has validated our move and has created a strong foundation for our success moving forward."

Phase I of the project included a new field-turf surface and lighting and was completed in 2005.  For more information on the project and additional naming opportunities, please contact Assistant Athletic Director Alison Cole at 203-432-3344.
