Eight Home Dates Set For Reese Stadium
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Non-league road trips to two of the most difficult venues in all of college soccer highlight the 2011 Yale men's soccer schedule. The Bulldogs will play St. John's on Sept. 11 at Belson Stadium, which was recently voted the nation's 12th top venue by College Soccer News, and then travel to Storrs, Conn., to face UConn at Morrone Stadium on Sept. 27.
There will also be plenty of opportunities for New Haven area fans to watch Yale. The Bulldogs will play eight games in the friendly confines of Reese Stadium, starting with the season opener on Sept. 2 against Central Connecticut at 3 p.m. In addition, four of Yale's seven Ivy League games will be played at home.
In all, 10 of the Bulldogs' 17 games will be against teams that finished .500 or better last year.
The first road trip is Yale's longest – to Bethlehem, Pa., for a matchup with Lehigh on Sept. 4. A week later is the game at St. John's. The Red Storm is 64-10-17 all-time at Belson Stadium.
The Bulldogs' first three Ivy games will all be at home, starting Oct. 1 against Harvard. Yale also plays Ivy foes Dartmouth (Oct. 8), Cornell (Oct. 15) and Brown (Nov. 5) at Reese. The league road games are Penn (Oct. 22), Columbia (Oct. 29) and the season finale against Princeton (Nov. 12).
The Bulldogs return all but two starters from last year's team that finished 3-12-1 overall.
