  • Piper Helps Force FC Academy To Super-20 League Championship

    Rising sophomore Philip Piper played a key role in Force FC Academy of Michigan winning the 2013 Super-20 League Championship last weekend. Piper helped anchor a defense that posted a shutout in a 2-0 victory over Pacesetter SC of Ohio in the title game last Sunday at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

    For much of his tenure as Yale’s men’s soccer coach, Brian Tompkins has been active in the Olympic Development Program. And now his role is expanding. Tompkins has been named the head coach of the Region 1 Under-15 ODP age group.

    Yale men’s soccer coach Brian Tompkins will take part in an NSCAA live video chat entitled Coaches Conversations on Wednesday beginning at 1 p.m . ET. Tompkins will be joined by Indiana coach Todd Yeagley, who guided the Hoosiers to the NCAA College Cup Championship last November.

    It may not have been evident in the final score, but the Yale men’s soccer team showed earlier this season it could compete against the nation’s best teams in games against nationally ranked opponents UConn and Cornell. Saturday against No. 11 Brown, the proof was there for all to see. Bobby Thalman made 11 saves as the Bulldogs earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw with the Bears on a chilly night at Stevenson Field.

    Yale head coach Brian Tompkins used the final non-conference game of the season Tuesday against Lehigh to shuffle his starting lineup and get a look at some of his younger players. Tompkins was happy with what he saw. Unfortunately, though, it didn’t keep the Bulldogs from being snakebitten around the goal.

    The second half of Saturday’s game with Dartmouth may have been the most frustrating of the season so far for the Yale men’s soccer team. The Bulldogs had the better of the play, outshooting the Big Green 8-4, and had plenty of opportunities to score but couldn’t finish.
