Offense Starting To Click As Ivy Opener Approaches

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – At the start of the season, it was generally assumed that defense would be the strength of this year's Yale men's soccer team. So far that has held true as Yale has yielded only five goals. The good news for the Bulldogs, though, is that the offense is starting to click as well. Yale has three goals in its last two games, victories over Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart.

The Bulldogs hope that trend continues when they play a pair of games this weekend – hosting Fordham on Friday at 7 p.m. at Reese Stadium and then traveling to Marist on Sunday for a 1 p.m. kickoff.

Yale (2-3-1) was particularly impressive in last Sunday's 2-0 win over Sacred Heart. Both goals were pretty, and the Bulldogs were crisp with their passing and possession. The other positive for Yale is the three goals during the winning streak have come from three different players – Peter Jacobson, Scott Armbrust and Jenner Fox.

Fordham (3-3) will provide a good test for the Yale offense. The Rams have yielded only five goals in their six games. Sean Bradley has played every minute of every game in goal and has an .828 save percentage. Fordham hasn't played since a 2-1 loss at Stony Brook last Friday. The Rams do have a 1-0 victory at Brown on their resume.

Yale and Fordham are playing for only the second time. The Bulldogs edged the Rams 2-1 in overtime on Sept. 11, 1990.

Yale is a little more familiar with Marist. The teams played last year at Reese Stadium and the Bulldogs came away with a surprisingly easy 7-0 win. It doesn't figure to be that easy again. The Red Foxes (3-3-1) are one of the top programs in the MAAC. Stephan Brossard and Evan Southworth share the team lead with three goals apiece. Marist is coming off a 4-0 win over UNC Asheville last Sunday.
