Alers, McKiernan Earn Preseason Honor

Named To Preseason All-Ivy League Team

A pair of Yale men's soccer players have been named to the preseason All-Ivy League team. Nick Alers was selected as a first team defender, while Max McKiernan earned second team recognition as a midfielder.

Alers, a rising senior, has been an All-Ivy selection in each of his first three seasons. He has started all 42 games he has appeared in during his career and has anchored Yale's defense. Last fall as a junior, he earned honorable mention All-Ivy recognition despite being limited to 10 games because of injury. Alers enjoyed a memorable sophomore campaign, earning NSCAA All-Northeast Region third team and first team All-Ivy honors. As a freshman, he was an honorable mention All-Ivy selection.

McKiernan, the 2013 team captain, is a two-time honorable mention All-Ivy selection at Yale. He has played in 50 games in his career, including making 43 starts. Throughout his career, he has played a key role in an always stingy Yale defense. The last two seasons he has started all 33 games he has appeared in.  As a junior, he started 16 games and assisted on the game-winning goal against Penn. In his sophomore season, he was one of only four players to start all 17 games. In 2010, he was the only freshman to appear in all 17 games.

The Bulldogs, who report to preseason camp later this week, open the season on Sept. 6 at Fordham.
