Alers, Jacobson Earn Academic Honor

Alers, Jacobson Earn Academic Honor

Named To Capital One Academic All-District I First Team

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Two members of Yale's men's soccer team have been honored for their work both on the field and in the classroom. Defender Nick Alers, who has played every minute of every game this fall, and forward Peter Jacobson, who leads the team with nine points, each were named to the Capital One Academic All-District I first team.

Academic honors are old hat for Alers, who was a first team national Academic All-America selection last fall and earned national third team recognition as a sophomore. This fall, he also was a Senior CLASS Award candidate. On the field, Alers has earned All-Ivy recognition in each of his first three seasons. In his sophomore year, he was an NSCAA All-Northeast Region third team and first team All-Ivy selection. Alers, a senior economics major, also has been active in the community, serving as a mentor and tutor at New Haven's St. Martin de Porres Academy in an after school program teaching soccer skills in a weekly clinic to underprivileged kids.

Jacobson, also a senior, has 16 goals in his outstanding career. This fall, he has started 13 games and is among the Ivy League leaders with four goals. He was named the league's player of the week after tallying a hat trick against Sacred Heart, the first Yale player with three goals in a game since 2004. In his junior year, he tied for the team lead in goals and points and was an honorable mention All-Ivy selection as a sophomore after tying for fourth in the league in goals. Jacobson, a chemical engineering major, has volunteered with TOP Soccer, a program giving special needs children the chance to play soccer and learn teamwork.

First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
