First Ivy Home Game

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After playing its first three Ivy games on the road, the Yale men's soccer team finally gets to host a league game when Penn visits on Saturday. Kickoff on Alumni Day at Reese Stadium is slated for 4 p.m., following the Yale-Penn women's game, which is a 1 p.m. kickoff. ESPN+ has the video.

Here are notes on the matchup:

  • Midway through the Ivy League season, the race for the Ivy title remains wide open. Only four points separates the top seven teams. With four points, Yale sits in fifth place but is only three points behind league leader Princeton.
  • The Bulldogs (6-4-2, 1-1-1 Ivy) have won two straight games, including a 2-1 victory at Army on Tuesday night.
  • With six overall victories, Yale has already surpassed last year's total with four games remaining.
  • The Bulldogs have had some late-game magic in each of their last two games. Kyle Kenagy scored the game-winner in overtime in last Saturday's 2-1 victory at Cornell, and Aldo Quevedo's goal with 1:46 left in the second half snapped a 1-1 tie and lifted Yale to the win at Army.
  • Yale has featured a balanced attack this season. Four different Bulldogs have at least two goals, and nine have scored at least once.
  • Paolo Carroll leads the team in goals (4) and points (12). Nicky Downs has 10 points (3 goals, 4 assists).

SCOUTING PENN

The Quakers are 2-4-4 overall and 0-3 in Ivy play. Seven of Penn's 10 games on the season have gone to overtime. Both of the Quakers' wins came in overtime, including a 1-0 victory at Marquette. Alex Touche leads the team in scoring with four points. Goalkeeper Scott Forbes has played all 1,005 minutes and has a 0.90 goals against average and an .815 save percentage. Brian Gill is in his first season as the head coach at Penn. The Quakers are unbeaten in their last five games with Yale. Three of those games went to overtime.
