PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Luke Holmes buried a goal from 18 yards out in the eighth minute of overtime to give the University of San Francisco a 2-1 victory over Yale in the first game of the Brown Classic. The win improved USF to 3-0 on the season, but it did not come easy. The Bulldogs led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Andrew Dealy, which was assisted by Lindsey Williams.
"We had a good start to the game and played well in the first half, and then we ran out of steam as the game went on," said Yale head coach Brian Tompkins. "We made a couple of costly mistakes, but we'll address those and be ready for Sunday's game."
USF tied the score on a goal by senior Alfred Bedrossian, his second of the season and third of his career at the 46:21 mark, assisted by Chris Schwarze. Holmes' game-winning goal was assisted by Bedrossian, a blast into the lower right corner.
USF outshot Yale 15-10.
The Bulldogs (0-1) play Clemson on Sunday at 11 a.m. on the second day of the Brown Classic.
