PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Yale's success against nationally renowned programs continued at the adidas-Brown Classic. Junior Andrew Dealy converted a penalty kick at the 86:46 mark to break a 1-1 tie and lift Yale to a 2-1 win over 19th ranked Stanford at Brown's Stevenson Field. The Cardinal reached the championship game of last year's NCAA College Cup before falling to UCLA.
Last year, Yale knocked off defending NCAA champion North Carolina in the Brown Tournament.
"Our tactical discipline was much better today," said Yale head coach Brian Tompkins, who saw his team fall to Wisconsin 2-0 in Friday's season opener. "We passed the ball well, and we created a lot more danger against a quality opponent."
Dealy, an honorable mention All-Ivy pick last year, converted the penalty kick after Lindsey Williams was pulled down in the box.
Stanford took an early 1-0 lead when junior Matt Janusz scored on a pass from junior Sean Whalen at the 14:22 mark. Yale, who had the better of play throughout the first half, responded when freshman Alex Munns scored off a pass from Williams at 18:47 to knot the score at 1-1.
The victory lifts Yale to a 1-1 mark for the season, while the Cardinal drops to 1-3 overall.
