NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Johnny David scored the only goal of the game early in the first half as Fairleigh Dickinson held off Yale 1-0 in the second game of the Yale Classic. David settled a corner kick from Mirza Rusevic and drilled a shot past Yale goalie Matt Aleksinas.
The Bulldogs (1-2) controlled play for most of the second half, but FDU goalkeeper Andrew Nucifora was strong and finished with five saves, including a nifty kick save on an Alex Munns shot late in second half.
"We competed hard," said Yale head coach Brian Tompkins. "We had a lot of possession but couldn't turn it into a goal. We need to be sharper in our execution."
Aleksinas made five saves in goal for the Bulldogs. Both teams had nine shots on goal.
Yale plays Creighton, while FDU battles Brown in the second day of the Yale Classic on Sunday.
In the first game of the day, Brown topped Creighton 1-0.
