NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Freshman Alex Munns scored the only goal of the game with 5:36 left in the second half as Yale edged Hartford 1-0 before a big crowd at the Soccer-Lacrosse Stadium. Munns settled a feed from Ryan Raybould and fired a shot into the lower right corner from eight yards out.
"It was a tough game," said Yale head coach Brian Tompkins. "Overall we did enough to deserve the result. Alex did a great job finishing on the goal, but tonight's win was the result of hard work by the group."
The Bulldogs (2-3) controlled play for much of the game and outshot the Hawks 9-7. Matt Aleksinas made four saves to post the shutout, the second of his career.
Yale's defense did an excellent job containing Hartford's Alon Lubezsky, who came into the game with 17 points. Lubezsky was held without a shot on goal.
Ryan Carr made six saves in goal for Hartford (5-4-1)..
The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday night when they play at UConn at 7 p.m.
