No. 16 Bulldogs Dominate But Fall 1-0
Oct. 18, 2003
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Andrew George scored the only goal of the game in the 71st minute as Cornell edged 16th-ranked Yale 1-0 in an Ivy League game at the Soccer-Lacrosse Stadium. George deflected in a Steve Reuter cross. Yale outshot Cornell 19-2 but was unable to get anything past David Mahoney, who made seven saves in goal for the Big Red.
"With so much possession, we should have been able to score," said Yale coach Brian Tompkins. "We moved the ball well and were dangerous, but we couldn't put the ball in the net. We need to be better around the penalty area."
Yale (6-5, 2-1 Ivy) dominated play in both halves, outshooting Cornell 6-0 in the first half and 13-2 in the second. The Big Red's first shot didn't come until 21 minutes remained in the second half when Yale goalkeeper Matt Aleksinas made a diving stop on an Ian Pilarski blast.
Cornell (5-3-1, 2-0-1 Ivy) is unbeaten in its last five games.
Yale plays at Quinnipiac on Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
