Dealy Scores Game Winner In OT As Yale Tops Columbia
Nov. 1, 2003
NEW YORK - Andrew Dealy deflected a Marc Vimolratana shot just inside the right post only 28 seconds into the second overtime as Yale edged Columbia 2-1 in a key Ivy League contest at Baker Field. With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 9-6 overall and 4-1 in the Ivy League.
"This was as tough and competitive an Ivy League game as I've been a part of," said Yale head coach Brian Tompkins. "We were able to wear them down a little bit in the overtime. It was fitting that Dealy got the winning goal. He was the difference in the game."
After a scoreless first half, Yale got on the board first when Alex Munns scored his fourth goal of the season at 61:41. Jay Alberts and Justin Burton notched the assists. Scott Waddell, though, tied in the 79th minute.
Matt Aleksinas made six saves in goal for the Bulldogs, who are 8-3 in their last 11 games. Yale outshot the Lions 16-15.
The Bulldogs are back in action next Saturday when they host Brown in a key Ivy League game at 4 p.m. at the Soccer-Lacrosse Stadium.
