NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Continuing its commitment to the community, the Yale athletic department hosted 30 third and fourth graders from nearby Dwight Elementary School for a special day with Bulldog student-athletes recently. Members of the Yale field hockey, baseball, football and men's soccer teams all participated in the event.
The day began with a tour of the Yale campus, including stops at Sterling Memorial Library, Old Campus and a classroom. The students then played games such as basketball, kickball and volleyball in Payne Whitney Gym's Lanman Center. After lunch, the Yale student-athletes spoke to the Dwight Elementary students about the lessons they have learned about life as a student-athlete, encouraging all of them to attend college.
Yale assistant field hockey coach Abby Ostruzka is a teacher at Dwight Elementary and helped plan the event.
