12th-Ranked FDU Visits Yale Wednesday
Sept. 27, 2005
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Bulldogs have one more test before Saturday's Ivy League opener against Harvard, and it will be a challenge. Fairleigh Dickinson, ranked 12th this week by Soccer America, visits the Soccer-Lacrosse Stadium on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
"FDU is having a tremendous season and will provide our sternest test yet," Yale head coach Brian Tompkins said. "They are a well-organized defensive team with the ability to be explosive on offense. We know that we will have our hands full but are confident that a good showing against a high-quality opponent will aid our preparation for the beginning of the Ivy season this weekend."
After opening the season with three straight 1-1 ties, Yale has rolled off three straight victories. The Bulldogs have captured tournament titles in each of the last two weekends, winning the Yale Classic Presented by Barnes & Noble and capturing the adidas Dartmouth Classic.
With a 3-0-3 overall record, Yale is unbeaten after its first six games for the first time since 1991. The Bulldogs haven't been unbeaten after their first seven games since the 1952 team started 8-0-2.
The Knights, who have won five straight Northeast Conference regular season titles, bring a 6-0-1 overall record to New Haven. Their only blemish was a 1-1 tie with Loyola, Md., on Sept. 18, and they are coming off a 1-0 overtime victory over Columbia on Sunday.
