NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Sophomore Matt Aleksinas (Greenville, SC) has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week. Aleksinas, who has played all 630 minutes in goal for the Bulldogs, posted a pair of shutouts as Yale earned two key 1-0 victories. Against UConn on Oct. 1, he made six saves, including five in the second half, as the Bulldogs upset the 17th-ranked Huskies. Against Harvard, he made four saves as Yale blanked the Crimson in the Ivy opener. Aleksinas, who has a 1.00 goals against average, has three straight shutouts and hasn't allowed a goal in 278 minutes, 41 seconds dating back to the first half of the Creighton game on Sept. 21.

Aleksinas had a fine freshman season. He was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week after making seven saves and blanking Brown. His other victory came when he played the final 32:31 and did not allow a goal against Alabama A&M. At the Taft School, he was an All-New England selection. Taft reached the semifinals of the New England Tournament. Aleksinas also was a member of the South Carolina state team in 1997 and 98. His brother, Marc, plays soccer at Vanderbilt.
