Trip To Penn Next Up For Bulldogs

Oct. 19, 2007

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - After opening Ivy play with a pair of hard-fought ties, the Bulldogs need to start winning to stay in the race for the league title. They'll look for that first victory when they travel to Penn Saturday night for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. Weather permitting live stats for the game will be available at PennAthletics.com.

Yale (2-4-4, 0-0-2 Ivy) is unbeaten in its last six games and is coming off a 2-2 tie with Central Connecticut on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs have allowed only four goals during the stretch. Goalkeeper Erik Geiger began the week seventh in the nation in save percentage (.877) and 11th in saves (6.25 per game).

Offensively, a young front line continues to develop. A pair of forwards, sophomore Kevin Pope and freshman Aden Farina-Henry, scored their first career goals against Central Connecticut. Yale's last six goals have come from six different players, including three by freshmen.

Penn (4-5-2, 1-1 Ivy) dropped a 2-0 decision at Rutgers on Wednesday night. The Quakers also feature a balanced attack. Seven players have at least two goals, led by Andrew Ferry with three. Alex Grendi has a team-high five assists. Drew Healy has played a majority of the minutes in goal and has a 1.35 goals against average.

Last year in New Haven, Penn escaped with a 1-0 victory, scoring the only goal early in the first half. The Bulldogs held a 16-8 edge in shots but couldn't get the equalizer. Yale leads the all-time series 42-40-8 and is 6-3-1 in the last 10 games.
