NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Liam Leonard, who scored the game-winning goal in Yale's 2-1 victory over Brown on Saturday, was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week. His goal came on a breakaway after he controlled a through-ball from Alex Guzinski.
Leonard has appeared in all 16 games and is second on the team in goals with three. He is the second Yale player to be named Ivy Rookie of the Week. Jon Carlos won the award on Oct. 3.
Yale is 9-3-4 overall and 4-1-1 in Ivy League play. The Bulldogs, who trail Ivy co-leaders Brown and Dartmouth by two points, can earn a share of the league title with a victory over Princeton on Saturday and a Brown-Dartmouth tie. The Big Green and Bears also play Saturday. In the event of a three-way tie, Dartmouth would receive the league's automatic NCAA berth by virtue of head-to-head-to-head record. Dartmouth would be 1-0-1 against Yale and Brown, while the Bulldogs would be 1-1 and the Bears 0-1-1.
