NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Following an impressive victory at the Ivy Scrimmages, the Yale men’s squash team will play its regular season opener this Friday at 6 p.m. against Williams at the Brady Squash Center.
The Bulldogs will look to build on their victories over Brown, Dartmouth and Princeton at last weekend’s Ivy Scrimmages. The victory over Princeton appears particularly promising, as the Tigers handed the Elis one of their two regular season losses during the 2008-2009 campaign.
The team, led by senior captain Todd Ruth, looks to contend for both the Ivy League and national titles this season, buoyed by the addition of several talented freshmen. Kenneth Chan, Richard Dodd, Sam Haig and Hywel Robinson will all experience their first official match as Bulldogs this Friday.
The visiting Williams team will aim to improve upon last season’s 9-7 regular season record, which included a 9-0 loss to Yale at the Simon Squash Center in Williamstown. The Ephs return three All-NESCAC players but will face a true test against a Bulldog ladder that provides tough matches from top to bottom.
The match will set the tone for the Elis going forward throughout the season as they look to improve on last year’s 14-2 regular season, in which the squad’s only losses came at the hands of Princeton and eventual national champion Trinity.
