No. 4 Bulldogs Host Yale Round Robin, Play Three This Weekend
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The No. 4 Bulldogs will be in action for three games this weekend, facing No. 12 Bates, No. 6 Cornell, and No. 32 Northeastern in the Yale Round Robin at the Brady Squash Center.
The Yale squad, coming off its biggest win of the season against No. 2 Rochester, will look to remain undefeated heading into the Jan. 20 match versus Trinity. The CSA rankings have not been updated since Yale's victory, but the team should be ranked no worse than No. 3 in the next poll, barring a loss this weekend.
The Bulldogs will open Round Robin play on Friday at 5 p.m. by taking on the Bates Bobcats. The Bobcats (6-3, 3-2 NESCAC) come into the weekend following a close 5-4 loss to Williams on Jan. 9.
The Bulldogs (5-0, 2-0 Ivy) will return to conference action in their second match, a 10:45 a.m. Saturday meeting with Cornell. The Big Red (3-2, 1-2 Ivy) will play No. 1 Trinity in Hartford, Conn., on Friday night before traveling down I-91 to New Haven for an early morning match-up. Cornell opened the Ivy League season by defeating Penn 6-3, but the team has since fallen 6-3 to both Princeton and Harvard.
Yale will close out its Round Robin schedule with a Saturday afternoon match against Northeastern, scheduled for 3:45 p.m. The Huskies have struggled so far on the season, compiling an overall record of 1-7. Northeastern's sole victory came in a 5-4 bout with Boston University on Nov. 22. Since Huskies men's squash is a club team, the match will not count toward Yale's official season record.
The Yale Round Robin is a large tournament hosted annually at the Brady Squash Center. This year, the Bulldogs will welcome the following 10 teams to New Haven: Bates, Bowdoin, Colby, Connecticut College, Franklin & Marshall, George Washington, Hobart, MIT, Navy, Northeastern, and St. Lawrence.
