Bulldogs Back from Break
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A month after starting the season by shutting out No. 10 Penn and No. 12 Bates, the No. 2 Yale men's squash team looks north for its next round of opponents. The Bulldogs return from winter break to play No. 19 Amherst, No. 11 Williams and No. 7 Dartmouth this Friday and Saturday.
Yale dominated those first two matches, dropping only two games combined while shutting out the Quakers and the Bobcats 9-0. Yale also posted a strong pre-season record, defeating rival No. 6 Harvard 8-1 to win the Ivy Scrimmage.
The Bulldogs had two of the top eight players in the most recent CSA individual rankings, with sophomore Hywel Robinson at No. 7 and classmate Kenneth Chan at No. 8. Senior captain Naishadh Lalwani is No. 19.
History is on the Bulldogs' side this weekend. Yale opened its regular season last year with a 9-0 victory against Williams at the Brady Squash Center. The Elis dropped only two games in the match, led by Chan at the No. 1 position. Yale defeated Dartmouth three times last season: 9-0 in the Ivy Scrimmage, 8-1 in the regular season and 9-0 at the CSA Team Championship first round. The Big Green's Christopher R. Hanson is currently ranked No. 11 in the country. Yale did not play Amherst last year.
Yale plays Amherst (11 a.m., a change from the original time of Noon) and Williams (5 p.m.) on Friday, then plays at Dartmouth Saturday (11 a.m.).
