ITHACA, New York – Coming off a win against No. 8 Western Ontario on Friday evening, the No. 2 Bulldogs strengthened their undefeated streak, beating No. 5 Cornell by a 6-3 score. Yale's victory over Cornell boosts the Bulldogs to a 7-0 record (3-0 Ivy League).
The highlight of the match was 3-0 victories from juniors Ryan Dowd and Robert Berner, at the No. 6 and No. 8 spots. Sophomore Kenneth Chan overcame a 2-1 deficit to win in five games at the No. 2 position. In the toughest and most exciting match of the evening, Sophomore Hywel Robinson played a 45-minute match at the No. 1 spot. Robinson lost by a heartbreakingly small margin of 16-14 in the fifth game to Nicholas Sachvie, who won the 2010 U.S. Junior Open Squash Championships just last month.
The Bulldogs' strong performance this weekend puts them in great position to take on their toughest rival, No. 1 Trinity (Jan. 19 at 6p.m.) in a showdown between the two highest ranked teams in the country.
