New Haven, CT - The Bulldogs (10-3, 3-2 Ivy) bounced back from a disappointing loss to Princeton last week to defeat Brown 9-0 today. Yale dropped no games in the victory.
After playing challenge matches all week long, the Bulldogs came into today's match with a revamped lineup, featuring sophomore Francis Johnson at No. 3. Johnson and the Elis responded to this new order by dominating Brown. Johnson won his match against Brown's Adam Greenberg 9-0, 9-2, 9-0.
With Johnson playing at No. 3, Moshe Sarfaty moved down to No. 5 for the match and won 9-1, 9-6, 9-3 over Brown's Pat Haynes. After the match, Sarfaty said Yale's advantage over a lot of teams is the strength of the middle of the lineup.
The change in line up was "just because of challenge matches we played right after Princeton," Sarfaty said. "Not a big deal. We are all very close. From 3 to 6 to 7, we are pretty much the same."
Head Coach Dave Talbott said he decided it was time to shake the lineup up a little bit while also making practices more competitive.
"We just have been playing a lot of matches in practice," Talbott said. "We decided we needed to press each other. The advantage is just trying to make practice as competitive as possible."
Talbott said the Brown match fell into perfect position for Yale to regroup between Princeton and Harvard.
"We have 10 days to get our act back together," Talbott said. "It's a chance to compete. It's a chance to work on our own games. We had some good matches. I think the time for this match was right."
The Bulldogs travel to Cambridge to face Harvard this Wednesday February 14.
