March 4, 2006
AMHERST, Mass. - The men's squash team finished up the second day of play at the CSA Individual Championships today in Amherst, Mass. In his rematch with Trinity freshman Gustav Detter, Julian Illingworth lost a tough four-game quarterfinal match in the Potter Division (men's A). In other action, Moshe Sarfaty advanced to the semifinals of the Potter Division's consolation bracket.
Detter exacted revenge for his loss to Illingworth on Wed., Jan. 25, winning 0-9, 9-5, 9-7, 10-8.
Associate Head Coach Gareth Webber tipped his cap to Detter, although he did remark that Illingworth's preparation for the tournament had been slowed due to injuries.
"[Illingworth] actually played pretty well; he was just a little bit off," he said. "Gustav played well; he executed his defensive drop shots very well."
Sarfaty advanced to the semifinals of the Potter's consolation bracket before falling to Vincent Yu of Princeton, 5-9, 9-2, 9-4, 9-0.
Nick Chirls competed in the Potter Division's second-round consolation competition, falling to Harvard's Ilian Oren in the quarterfinals, 9-0, 9-0, 9-5.
In the Malloy Division (men's B) second-round consolation bracket, Andrew Vinci retired from his match with Andrew Zimmerman of Penn due to injury, and Trevor Rees dropped a tough match to Verdi DiSesa of Harvard, 9-3, 9-0, 9-3.
