Half of the field remaining in the A consolation bracket is comprised of Eli athletes. The Bulldogs have four players--No. 13 Josh Schwartz, No. 14 Anshul Manchanda, No. 24 Nick Chirls, and No. 30 Gavin Cumberbatch, who will compete tomorrow in the consolation quarterfinals at the CSA Individual Championships.
After falling to Harvard's Asher Hochberg by a 6-9, 10-8, 9-1, 9-3 score in the first round, Schwartz bested Princeton's Dent Wilkens 9-1, 9-5, 9-1 in the consolation round. He will face Trinity's Shaun Johnstone tomorrow in the quarterfinals.
Manchanda was defeated 9-4, 9-3, 9-1 by Trinity's Nadeem Osman but rebounded in his 7-9, 9-1, 9-6, 9-4 vicotroy over Princeton's Nate Beck. He competes tomorrow against Penn's Gilly Lane.
Chirls had one of the most competitive pair of matches of the day, losing in four games after taking the first game to Trinity's Reggie Schonbom. The final score was 4-9, 9-0, 9-5, 9-0. Chirls then went down two games to one to Princeton's Michael Gilman, but battled back for the five game 1-9, 9-5, 5-9, 9-4, 9-4 victory. Tomorrow he will take on Harvard's James Bullock.
Cumberbatch earned a first round bye in the consolation bracket and will compete in the quarterfinals tomorrow.
