NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale men's squash team dropped a tough 6-3 match to the Penn Quakers on Saturday to open its 2006-2007 campaign. Ho Ming Chiu, Aaron Fuchs and Francis Johnson picked up wins for the Elis.

The Bulldogs contended in every match, but simply couldn't generate the necessary momentum against the stingy Quakers. Todd Ruth won an epic third game against Ben Ende at No. 5, 10-9, before bowing out in a hard-fought fourth after surviving multiple match points. No. 3 Moshe Sarfaty won his opening game against Mark Froot, but dropped the next three. No. 8 Colin Campbell and No. 9 Ethan Oetter both played extremely hard-fought, tight games against their respective opponents but couldn't come up with wins.

The bright spots for Yale came from the 4, 6, and 7 slots. No. 4 Ho Ming Chiu won 3-1 against Spencer Kurn, highlighted by a workmanlike 9-3 fourth game. No. 6 Aaron Fuchs blasted Parker Justi 9-1, 9-3, 9-1, and No. 7 Francis Johnson picked up a four-game win over Graham Bassett.

The Bulldogs will next hit the courts on January 6, when they travel to Brunswick, ME to take on Bates, Bowdoin and Colby.
