College Squash Association Honors Two Elis
April 14, 2006
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Two Bulldogs were recently named to the College Squash Association's All-American teams. Captain Julian Illingworth was selected as a member of the first team for the fourth straight year, and Nick Chirls made the second team for the second year in a row.
After being named to the all-Ivy squad for the fourth straight year and winning his first professional tournament in March, the accolades just keep coming for Illingworth. The senior amassed a 12-2 record in the 2005-'06 season, including an epic four-game win against Trinity's Gustav Detter--also named first-team all-American--on Wed., Jan. 25.
Chirls was also honored by the CSA, being named a second-team all-American for the second consecutive year. Playing in the No. 2 slot for much of the season, Chirls' contribution to the Yale squad this season was invaluable as well, and included league wins against Brown and Cornell. Chirls also came back to win an epic match against Trinity's Manek Mather in the first round of the CSA Individual Championships on Fri., Mar. 3, winning 3-9, 9-6, 9-1, 1-9, 9-7.
