July 5, 2007

NEW HAVEN, Conn.--Sophomore Francis Johnson has been honored with a second team All-America selection by the Collegiate Squash Association (CSA). Johnson, who finished the year ranked No. 22 in the nation, helped the Bulldogs to a No. 4 team ranking and a fourth place finish at the CSA Team Nationals. Teammates Nick Chirls (No. 16) and Max Samuel (No. 17) also earned year-end rankings.

Johnson started the year at the No. 6 position, but finished the season as the Bulldogs' No. 3. He went 18-8 during the campaign, and won 14 matches in three sets.

At the CSA Individual Nationals, Johnson lost his first-round match to Trinity's Eduardo Pereira, relegating him to the Consolation Bracket. Johnson breezed through the field in the Consolation Bracket, winning his four matches by a combined score of 12-2. In the consolation final, he defeated Trinity's Rushabh Vora in three sets to earn All-American status.

He is spending the summer interning for the Chicago Machine in Major League Lacrosse and coaching a summer league high school team.
