Yale Looks to Extend Early Season Success Saturday
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's swimming and diving team returns to competition this weekend, where they will face off against Massachusetts. The dual meet takes place Saturday, Dec. 1st at Boyden Pool in Amherst, Mass. The meet starts at 1 p.m. EST.
The Elis are looking to build upon their early season success Saturday. In their first official meet of the 2012-2013 season, Yale defeated Columbia 170-130. Yale followed up the inaugural win of the season with a resounding victory at the Bucknell Invitational on Nov. 16-18. The Bulldogs cruised to a first-place victory, outperforming the six other teams competing that weekend. Led by the strong individual performances of Sophomores Alwin Firmansyah, Rob Harder and Andrew Heymann, and an influx of depth to the roster, the Elis were in first place after each successive day of competition.
Junior diver Tyler Pramer had a successful outing at the Bucknell Invitational, as well, aiding Yale in their emphatic win. Pramer swept the competition, winning the 1-meter and 3-meter diving finals. The Bulldogs certainly made a profound statement at the Bucknell Invitational, setting the tone for what looks to be a very promising season.
The last time Yale swam against Massachusetts in Amherst was during the 2010-2011 season. Yale was defeated by a score of 177-118. However, Yale defeated Massachusetts at Robert J.H. Kiphuth Exhibition Pool last year by a score of 176-112.
After more than a week off of competition, the Elis hope to continue where they left off this Saturday, when they try to defeat Massachusetts for a second year in a row.
