NEW HAVEN, Conn.-  An announcement from the NCAA on Wednesday confirmed that Yale sophomore Brian Hogan will compete at the 2014 NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships. The Championships begin on Mar. 27 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin, Texas.

Hogan will race in the 1,650-yard freestyle. His season-best time of 14:53.36, recorded at a home meet against Harvard and Princeton, is the tenth fastest in the nation. He will face off against the nation's best long-distance swimmers, including Penn sophomore Christopher Swanson, who won the 1,650 at the Ivy League Swimming and Diving Championships with a time of 14:53.75. Hogan was close behind in second place with a time of 15:02.42.
Only 237 swimmers from 57 universities were invited to this year's Championships. Hogan will be the first Yale swimmer to compete at the NCAA Championships since Alex Righi '09 in 2009. Righi tied an American record in the preliminaries of the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in 18.82. He finished fifth in the 50-yard freestyle, 12th in the 100-yard backstroke and fourth in the 100-yard freestyle. His swims alone allowed Yale to tie for 21st place at the meet.
Extensive coverage of the 2014 NCAA Championships will be available at the official web page for Division I swimming.
