Zak was a four-time letterman while swimming at Venice High
School. Murez, who is now a sophomore swimmer for the Bulldogs, set
eight new school records and served as the captain of his high
school squad. Here at Yale, Zak has mainly focused on swimming the
breaststroke events, but has also spent time swimming in the
200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay. In his freshman
season, Murez's top finishes came in a dual-meet against Fairfield
and Southern Connecticut State. Murez finished third in both the
100- and 200-yard breaststroke events. So far in his sophomore
season, Murez has continued to swim strongly. His best performances
were a sixth-place finish in the 100-breaststroke against Columbia,
an event he also placed sixth in at the Dartmouth-Penn dual meet.
His highest overall finish this year came as part of the 200-yard
freestyle relay at the BU Terrier Invitational, where he placed
fourth. He also made the B Finals and placed 13th in the 200-yard
individual medley at that event. Murez also had fourth-place
finishes against Dartmouth this year in the 200-yard medley relay
and the 400-yard freestyle relay.
