Geof Zann, affectionately known as "Mongo" to his teammates, hails from sunny South Florida. As a student at St. Andrew's School, Zann was a four-year varsity letterman, competing in both swimming and lacrosse. An accomplished backstroker and freestyler, he captained the swim team in both his junior and senior years. His pre-collegiate swimming accomplishments include being MVP of his high school team, 11-time County Champion, County MVP, as well as being a State Finalist and All-State Team member on multiple occasions. Geof's age-group roots in swimming are in the Palm Beach County swim programs. He represents Pine Crest Swim Team. As a freshman at Yale, Zann bolstered a solid backstroke contingent for the Bulldogs. He placed among the top 16 in both the 100 backstroke (51.77) and 200 backstroke (1:51.56) at the EISL Championships. In his sophomore year, Zann led the team in the 200 backstroke. He was an integral part of the 200 and 400 medley and freestyle relays and placed among the top 16 at the EISL championships in both the 100 backstroke (51.33) and 200 backstroke (1:49.81), as well as 21st in the 100 butterfly (51.03). Zann's greatest experience of the season, however, came at the Patriot Invitational where he won the 200 backstroke in meet record time. This personal best time ranked him 49th in the nation at that time. In his free time, Mongo enjoys the simpler pleasures of life. He lists punk rock music, slurpees, eating with team in Commons, and fervently supporting Bulldog volleyball as his most cherished sources of delight. He selected Yale because of the unparallel academic opportunities and the privilege to be a part of the "winningest" collegiate swim team in history with a great swimming tradition.
