Bulldogs Tied for Fourth After Day 1 of ECAC Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - After Day I of the 2007 ECAC Swimming Championships, Yale is tied for fourth place with 93 points. The Bulldogs return to action Saturday at 10 am at Harvard.

In the first event of the day, the 200 yard freestyle relay, Yale's 'A' team, freshman Jonathan Taylor, sophomore Dan Li and juniors Alexander Goldsmith and Morgan Locke, placed seventh, clocking in at 1:25.66. They beat the eighth place Hopkins team by a mere .04 seconds.

Junior Madden Reid then took third in the 500 yard freestyle. He posted a time of 4:36.73. Teammate sophomore Ilya Byzov notched a seventh place finish with his time of 4:40.93.

Yale's best finish of the day came when junior John Lynch snagged second place in the 200 yard individual medley. With a time of 1:54.04, he edged the third place finisher, Jos Rosenbluth of Rider, by .06 seconds. Locke came in sixth in the event in a time of 1:55.37.

After the 200 IM, the Bulldogs held second place but would fail to tack on any additional points in the three remaining events--the 50 yard freestyle, the 400 yard medley relay, and the 3 meter diving.

The Championships resume Saturday morning with the 200 yard medley relay preliminaries. Results are available at the meet website.
