Lichtenstein Comes 9th In 1-Meter Dive

PISCATAWAY, NJ - Yale's Jeffrey Lichtenstein and Pat Hayden representing the Yale diving team at the NCAA Zone A Regionals held at Rutgers' RU Aquatic Center, finished ninth and 24th respectively in the 1 meter dive Friday afternoon.

Lichtenstien sat in tenth place after the preliminary round of the 1 meter diving event with 277.15 points from his six dives. Ahead of him after the preliminary round were some familiar faces, including Dartmouth's Andrew Berry and Navy's Kevin Teague. In the finals, Lichtenstein managed to leapfrog Berry to finish in ninth place with 529.05 points from his two dives. Lichtenstein also finished ninth in the 1 meter dive at last year's NCAA Zone A regionals.

Hayden scored 228.60 in the first round of the 1 meter event. The score left him in 24th place overall after the preliminaries, with only the top 18 qualifying for the finals.

Competition at the Zone A Regionals will continue tomorrow at 12 pm at Rutgers' RU Aquatic Center. Complete results can be found at the Rutgers Athletics website.
