New York, NY - The Bulldogs opened their 2007-08 season with a 164-136 victory over Columbia Friday in New York, NY. The Yale win featured six different Elis pulling out victories in nine out of the sixteen events.
The Bulldogs started off the day by taking the top three spots in the 3-meter diving led by senior Jeffrey Lichtenstein who took first place in the event. Lichtenstein also came in first place in the 1 meter diving. Yale's 200-yard medley `A' relay team, consisting of sophomore Thomas Robinson, junior Matt Sweitzer, junior Chris Pool, and junior Alex Righi, took first place in the event with a time of 1:32.67.
In his Yale debut, freshman Matt Lee won first place in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:35.14. In the 100-yard backstroke, Thompson took first place with a time of 51.43. Thompson also finished first in the 200 yard backstroke. Sweitzer won the 100-yard breaststroke even with a time of 58.09.
Coming off an NCAA tournament finish last season, Righi started this season where he left off last by cruising to an easy win in both the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle.
The Bulldogs will face off against Southern Connecticut St. at home Sunday.
