New York, NY - The Yale men's swim team was defeated today by Columbia in their season opener, 191-128. Kieran Locke `06 claimed first place in the 100 back. Douglas Scott '08 was first in the 1 meter dive. Also in first were Chris Pool '09 in the 100 fly, Alex Righi '09 in the 100 free and Dennen McCloskey '09 in the 200 back.
Locke won the 100 back with a time of 52.56. Geof Zann '07 was third with a time of 53.35.
Yale swept the 200 back. McCloskey was first with 1:52.52. In second was William Rubenstein '08 with a time of 1:53.80. Zann was third with 1:53.83.
In the 200 free Andrew Foss '07 came in third place with a time of 1:42.43. Righi was second in the 50 free in 21.17. In the 100 free Righi claimed first in 45.03. Third went to Locke with a time of 47.50. In the 500 free Foss was third with a time of 4:41.59.
Pool took first in the 200 fly with a time of 1:53.67. Ben Dzialo '07 was third with 1:56.01. In the 100 fly Pool was second with 51.54. Dzialo was third with a time of 52.43.
In the 400 IM McCloskey was second with a time of 4:05.12.
Yale took second and third in the 400 free relay. The Yale `A' team of Zann, Locke, Foss and Righi was second with a time of 3:13.10. The `B' team of Thunell, Tom Hardy '06, Sebastian Cousins '09 and Pool was third with 3:15.94.
In the 1 meter diving competition, Scott was first with a score of 256.58. Jeffrey Lichtenstein '08 placed third with 249.00. In the 3 meter dive, Lichtenstein was second with a score of 288.53. Pat Hayden '08 was third with 247.28.
The Bulldogs host the home season opener against Maine and SCSU on Sat., Nov. 12 at home in New Haven.
