Yale Leads Patriot Invite After Day One

Alex Righi took home three first place finishes to lead the Bulldogs to an early first place lead in the three-day Patriot Invite with a score of 293. Righi won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.76, teamed up with Chris Pool, Matt Thunell and Kieran Locke to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:24.02 and joined Colin Stalnecker, Pool and Andrew Foss to finish first in the 400-yard medley relay thanks to a time of 3:24.66.

Yale's `B' 200-yard freestyle relay team of Morgan Locke, Foss, Tom Hardy and Geof Zann finished in fourth place with a time of 1.26.53.

Foss took home a fourth place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:34.59. Dennen McCloskey finished sixth in the 200-yard IM (1:56.43.). In the 50-yard, freestyle Kieran Locke finished sixth (21.33) and Pool finished eighth (21.79).

In the 1-meter diving, Jeff Lichtenstein finished second (306.45), Pat Hayden came in sixth (251.20) and Doug Scott finished eighth (243.45).

Yale won the event last year, overtaking Duke on the final day and on the final relay.

The invitational, which is hosted by George Mason University in Virginia, will resume tomorrow at 10 a.m.
