Bulldogs Complete Day One Of The U.S. Open

Freshman Alex Righi finished sixth in the 50-meter freestyle to lead the Bulldogs during the opening day of the U.S. Open, held at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center in Auburn, Ala.
Righi finished the freestyle with a time of 23.67. He also teamed up with junior Andrew Foss, sophomore Billy Rubenstein and freshman Dennen McCloskey to finish 11th in the 800-meter freestyle relay thanks to a time of 7:58.03.
Foss came in 22nd in the 400 meter-freestyle with a time of 4:07.29, while sophomore Colin Stalnecker finished 24th in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:09.61).
McCloskey finished the 200-meter backstroke in 22nd with a time of 2:10.03 and Rubenstein came in 38th in the same event (2:12.59).
The Bulldogs lone women's swimmer at the Open, junior Moira McCloskey, finished 13th in the 200-meter backstroke thanks to a time of 2:20.72.
Tomorrow the following men's and women's events will take place: 100-meter backstroke, 200-meter freestyle, 100-meter butterfly, 400-meter individual medley and the 400-meter medley relay.

The Bulldogs are competing against a number of U.S. Olympic swimmers and high-profile international stars at the U.S Open. Approximately 600 athletes are registered for the meet.
