Atlanta, GA - Junior Alex Righi led the Bulldogs to a fifth place finish at the Short Course National Championships Saturday in Atlanta, GA. Righi accumulated all 35.50 of Yale's points in the competition.
After earning 21.50 points with a 6th place finish in the 50-yard freestyle and a 9th place finish in the 100-yard backstroke in the first two days of competition, Righi earned the Bulldogs an additional 14 points with a 5th place finish in the 100-yard freestyle Saturday.
Righi finished with a time of 42.97 in the race while competing against the country's best including Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps, who finished first with a time of 42.14. In an arena that Righi will try to make the Olympic team from, he hung with the country's best in the 50-yard freestyle, the 100-yard backstroke, and the 100-yard freestyle.
