NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale men's swimming and diving team was named the top academic squad in Division I swimming today by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.
The Bullldogs recorded a team GPA of 3.42, an improvement on the 3.40 GPA they recorded in 2004-5. Last year's 3.40 was also the best in the nation.
The 2005-06 Bulldogs, under the leadership of head coach Frank Keefe, finished the season with an 8-4 overall record. They also successfully defended their Patriot Invitational team championship and were represented at the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championship.
Apart from Yale, only two other Ivy League schools ranked in the Top 25 academically. The Elis were also one of only three Ivy teams to record a GPA of over 3.0.
The complete ranking of the top academic men's swimming programs is available at the College Swimming website.
