April 18, 2006

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Geof Zann has been named the captain of the men's swimming and diving team for the 2006-07 season. Zann will succeed current senior Brendan Everman as the captain.

Zann, who swims freestyle and backstroke at Yale, has cemented his position as a solid contributor in multiple events during his three seasons at Yale. He has been consistently among Yale's best in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events, and has also contributed in the medley relay and freestyle relay events.

At the 2006 EISL Championships, Zann was a member of the 200-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard medley relay teams that both finished fifth overall. He also recorded a ninth-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke event, winning the consolation final.

This strong performance in the 200 backstroke at the 2006 EISL's followed Zann's previous successes in backstroke events. In his sophomore year, he finished in the top 16 in both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke.

Zann also had a successful high school swimming career. He lettered four years at St Andrew's School and was also captain of the team both his junior and senior years. Zann was MVP of his high school team as well as County MVP. Hailing from Boca Raton, Florida, Zann represents the Pine Crest Swim Team.

"It is truly an honor to be chosen among these men as the sole captain of our team," Zann said. "I am extremely proud to be captain, and recognize that my entire class will be integral in the success of our program in the following year. We are eager to face the competition and turn some heads."
