Righi Named 2008 Division I Men's Mid-Major Swimmer-of-the-Year

New Haven, Conn. - Junior Alex Righi was named the 2008 Division I Men's Mid-Major Swimmer-of-the-Year by CollegeSwimming.com on Monday. Righi joined teammate senior Jeffrey Lichtenstein among the 13 men named to the 2008 Division I Men's Mid-Major All-America Swimming team.

Righi placed second in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyles at the NCAA Division I Championships last month. The selection marked the second time that Righi was named to the team.

For Lichtenstein, the selection marked a first after a superb season that culminated in an NCAA Championships appearance. Lichtenstein finished in the top 30 in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events at the competition.

Junior Christopher Pool was recognized as a CollegeSwimming.com Men's All-America Team Honorable mention.

Yale dominated the All-America team along with Ivy League rivals Harvard and Princeton. The three schools combined for 7 of the 13 selections to the team.
