The Yale men's swimming team concludes its fall semester schedule this weekend by hosting the 2004 Nutmeg Invitational. The meet will bring six teams to the RJ Kiphuth Exhibition Pool for three days of competition following the NCAA/Ivy League Championship trials and finals format. The trials Friday December 5 will start at 12 noon with the finals at 7 pm. Over the weekend the trials will be held at 10 am both Saturday and Sunday, with the finals on Saturday going off at 6 pm and Sunday's finals at 3 pm.
The meet will bring five teams from both in and outside the Nutmeg state to compete against the Bulldogs. Although no team score will be kept, area swimmers from Central Connecticut State University, Fairfield University, and Sacred Heart will join two teams from Massachusetts, the University of Massachusetts and Williams College, contesting the 38 event program along with the swimmers from Yale.
Yale will be led by senior Jimmy Veazey (Hamden, CT), whose times turned in earlier meets this season currently rank him among the best men butterfly specialists in the nation. Other Yale swimmers will be trying to join him on these rankings and in an effort to top as many of the meet records as possible. Going in to the meet a number of the swimmers are a second or less off the meet standards in 13 of the 19 men's events. Following the meet the team will shift its focus to first semester finals that follow in less than a week's time.
