NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Yale improved to 5-3 with a 6-1 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson Saturday at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center. The Bulldogs swept all three doubles matches to win the doubles point in the victory.
At No. 1 doubles, junior Calvin Bennett and freshman Marc Powers defeated Marco Jemrsic and Peter Skvara 8-5. The doubles team of senior Connor Dawson and sophomore Joel Samaha rolled to an 8-3 win over Ibrahim Shams and Sven Sjoerds at No. 2 doubles. Playing No. 3 doubles, freshman John Huang and freshman Daniel Hoffman won 8-3 over Andrew Denny and Domini Herny.
The Bulldogs also won five of six singles matches in the victory. At No. 1 singles, Powers cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 win over Herny. Huang defeated Skvarka in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Bennett pulled out a 6-2, 4-6, 2-1 (4) win at No. 3 singles over Sjoerds. Playing No. 4 singles, Hoffman rolled to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Mark Herny. At the No. 5 singles slot, Samaha battled to a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Denny.
